Health and Goods Programs for the Elderly

Within the line of action associated with improving the quality of life, the idea and concern to design and implement a project focused on seniors of a rural area where artisanal fishermen from the Tarapacá region live in a socio-economic situation with high vulnerability index.

The project seeks to benefit between 143 and 160 seniors from a rural fishing cove in the Tarapacá region, Chile, in which a high percentage of this inhabitants have a social context linked to poverty and high rates of health problems.

One of the main priorities of the community is to approach health conditions, as a way to mitigate the concerns generated by advancing age in a context of rurality and remoteness from the strategic nodes that provide quality care and a comprehensive look at the problems that older adults must face. In this way, the inhabitants of Chanavayita need a project that allows them, through a support program, to lessen the costs of treatments and diseases associated with this stage of life, but, at the same time, and mainly, to receive a specialized assistance that provides support, guidance and socio-educational practices that strengthen their ties and improve the quality of life of the elderly and the entire community to intervene.
